On Amalfi Coast

Top ten things to see and do

  1. Duomo of Amalfi

The Amalfi Coast’s architectural gem, the Duomo of Sant’Andrea in Amalfi features a strikingly colourful 19th-century façade, Cloister of Paradise, Museum, Crypt of Sant’Andrea, and a lavish Baroque interior. The best spot for enjoying a gelato and watching city life go by is from the grand staircase overlooking the Piazza Duomo.
  2.

  3. Ravello’s Villa Rufolo & Villa Cimbrone

With breathtaking views from its position high above the coastline, Ravello’s panoramas and gardens make it a must-see on the Amalfi Coast. At the Villa Rufolo, built in the late 13th century, visitors can admire the fine architecture and romantic gardens overlooking spectacular views of Amalfi Coast.
  4.

  5. Shopping for Positano Fashions

The iconic town of Positano is pictured on almost every postcard of the area, famous for its vertical streets and pastel coloured houses that steeply climb up the hillside.  Also known for its beachside fashions and leather shops, colourful boutiques offering the latest styles fill the narrow streets.
  6.

  7. Seeing the Amalfi Coast from the Sea

Whether you take an organised boat trip, rent one for a day, or simply hop on one of the ferries or small boats that conveniently connect many of the cities along the coast, one of the most beautiful views of the Amalfi Coast is from the sea. Along the way you can see the little coves and hidden beaches that are not accessible from land and find some of the best swimming spots on the Amalfi Coast.
  8.

  9. Walking the Ancient Pathways

Long before the Amalfi Coast Road was constructed in the 1800s, the towns were connected by a series of steps and footpaths, still offering excellent views and hiking opportunities. The most famous walk is the Path of the Gods, a steep rocky path connecting Priano and Positano, with breathtaking views of the Amalfi Coast and the Island of Capri in the distance.
  10.

  11. Shopping for Ceramics in Vietri sul Mare

While ceramics fill little shops in most cities along the Amalfi Coast, Vietri sul Mare is the undisputed top spot for ceramic shopping. With a central street lined with ceramic shops and factories, the hardest part is deciding which one to go in first. The Museo della Ceramica (Ceramics Museum) located in nearby Raito offers a glimpse of the city’s important artistic heritage.
  12.

  13. Hitting the Beach

The clear blue waters and rugged coastline are one of the top attractions for visitors to the Amalfi Coast. Most major beaches offer services with beach chairs, umbrellas and restaurants, but you don’t have to go far to discover hidden coves with quiet beaches.
  14.

  15. Seafood Dinner in Cetara

Off the tourist path is the picturesque fishing village of Cetara, located just west of Vietri sul Mare. An important fishing centre since the Middle Ages, Cetara is still home to a very busy fishing fleet. This charming town is an excellent spot for enjoying some of the regional seafood specialities on the Amalfi Coast.
  16.

  17. Amalfi Handmade Paper

In the Middle Ages, Amalfi was famous for its paper production from the mills located in the valley high above the city. Today you can visit the ruins of the old mills and the Museo della Carta (Paper Museum) in Amalfi, and buy the handmade paper fashioned into beautifully bound leather journals for a memorable keepsake to record your memories of the Amalfi coast.
  18.

  19. Limoncello Tasting

A speciality of the Sorrento Peninsula, Limoncello is a lemon liqueur made with alcohol infused with lemon rinds. Locals will tell you that the best limoncello is made from the locally grown Sfusato Amalfitano lemons that are only grown on the Amalfi Coast. Many limoncello shops offer the chance to taste this local speciality, as well as number of other popular liqueurs.
